The original WTB crew was captivated by the experience of riding bikes on dirt trails, and they started creating more durable and functional components for their own bikes. Soon, local frame builders sought to outfit their bikes with WTB's high-end components. WTB was able to turn our passion for bikes into a successful business.

Driven by the vision of becoming a worldwide known manufacturer of bicycle components, DT Swiss expanded its product range over the years. Today DT Swiss has established itself as a leading manufacturer of spokes, nipples, hubs, rims, complete wheels as well as suspension systems.

We believe that our work can help every rider find a new level of confidence and performance with our sturdy and lightweight forks, bars, rims and more. So whether you are building a new bike or upgrading one you already have, you'll find an uncommon attention to detail in every product we offer.

It's true. Our goal has never been to be the lightest. If it was, we would be. Plain and simple. We've been making wheels for the bicycle industry longer than most and we've seen technologies come and go.

Steve's Review:

However, there are a few timeless qualities that we have stuck to: 1. Durability is king. Regardless of crazy material cocktails or ingenious construction methods--if it leaves you walking off the trail, all the so-called technology is pointless. Make it easy. Our tubeless set-ups are a breeze and considered industry best.

Make it perform. Whether it's race day or an afternoon shred, we want riders to be confident that their hoops are capable. Go back to number one. Durable, lightweight, easy to set up with performance that rivals everything out there.

Surly is a leading manufacturer of bicycle frames, and was one of the first Fat Bike manufacturers. We define color as the main color of the item. It may have accents or highlights in other colors. Rims are drilled for specific tube valves. Schrader and Presta are the two common choices.

Presta valves are the skinny, often threaded type. Tire type is the type of tire the rim can accept. Some rims can only accept clincher tires. Others are tubeless only. Some are tubeless compatible.Note: Your browser does not have JavaScript enabled.

Currently I'm pondering what would be a good inside width for the rims. I'm seeing pre-built "mountain bike" wheels with inside rim widths that vary greatly, but I've narrowed my choices down to inside widths of 23mm or 29mm cheap WTB STP rims, i'm on a tight budget.

My question, finally, is will there be significant difference in tire performance of the 2. I'm leaning toward "yes, get the wide rims" but I'm not experienced with tires as big as the 2.

It's entirely possible that tires this large will not follow my previous experiences But these are much lower volume tires to begin with, so results may not carry over to the larger Nanos. Quote 0 0 0. Can you split the difference and get i25 version?

I have the WTB i23 rims. I have about tough gravel and dirt miles on them. The rim set has been flawlwess. They are pretty wide at 23mm but if you can grab a set of 25mm I would.

I have 2 sets of Mavic hoops. Mount the widest set you can you wont be unhappy with that decision. Never blame the bike it's rarely the bikes fault!!FREE U. Glen says he has been on WTB rims for the last 23, miles of mountain biking! Check it out! Day two of the Tour Divide mountain bike race found me bombing down a remote Canadian pass on my mountain bike.

Fortunately for my piece of mind, my rims are WTB. WTB rims have taken me more than 3, miles on three attempts on the Tour Divide race without a hitch. This race is tough and rugged, and wheels endure both rider and gear weight. Lacing wheels with the WTB rims is made easier and faster by not having to deal with other built-in defects such as warps or an oval shape.

The Frequency Team i29 gives an advantage when using wider tires; having a 29mm inner width, it increases the tire width as well, giving better traction and more tire volume. The difference from the previous i23 model to the new Frequency Team i29 on my rear wheel resulted in a gain of 5. Wider tires hook up faster, and keep traction longer. Again, tire width increased, this time by 6mm. The difference with the new Frequency Team i29 up front is flat out amazing!

Piece of mind comes from having good gear, and in my experience, from fire road riding to rocky single track abuse.

Let's see what he thought! This is the i29 Tough version. Like the Frequency line up, this rim is built for bashing, WTB's words! When I build my wheels I want them to last. Not only being strong but keep it TRUE. Laced up with proper tension any good rim will keep things in place with minimal movement KOM i29 works very well! I love the cross-drilled spoke holes!

Makes for nice and even tension from side to side keeping those spokes nice and straight. Start off with all the spokes laced up and each nipple down to the very last thread showing. After the dish setting, it just a matter of bringing on the tension. When inflating to set the beads No question about it! Love that! Tubeless setup only requires ONE wrap of tape, no need for multiple wraps and normally, I can get it to seal with just over 2 oz.

What I loved about these rims was their width was a touch wider and that really helped to spread the tire casing to give you overall a really different ride quality.

Shortly after this, Salsa introduced their Gordo 29er rim which had a 35mm width. But as I started to build more and more prototypes in and through toI wanted to go tubeless and neither of these rims, especially the Gordo which I loved, were tubeless compatible. The tradeoff initially going to tubeless meant I was moving back to a narrower profile rim, but I was gaining the ability to set up my tires Schwalbe Hans Dampf 2.

So ever since then, although I initially saw the benefits of a wider rim, I had been running a slightly narrower rim than what I wanted.

Enter Wilderness Trail Bikes. Wide rims are nothing new these days. The benefits are clear of spreading the tire casing and making them stand a bit more upright to deliver a much more plush ride and increased stability.

Loved the ease of tubeless set up you can set them up with floor pump the tolerances are that good. I was still missing that extra girth.

The ERD only differs by mm between these two rims so I ordered up a pair and got to work once they arrives swapping rims. I could not be happier. Out on the trail this translates to more control, you can run slightly lower pressures to increase traction and the tire profile gets a bit more on the full side aiding to that overall plush ride quality I had missed.

So far so good. I put in a hard 20 miles last night helping to clean some tree fall from the H race course along the way I actually followed the race course and picked it up at the end of Miner Road. The only thing standing in your way is Fletcher Farm Road. Albeit on a single speed.

Post ride I was still feeling fresh even on a hardtail.

Ten sports new software march 2020

Hard cornering and charging lines had a layer of confidence. So far so good with this combo with the only trouble arising when it was wet and slimy out after a good amount of rain. The tires were getting knocked around and I was slipping and sliding off of rocks and roots in off camber turns. Well ALL of July. But after a few tries, I nailed the lines but it was slippery and the sensation of being knocked off balance was increased due to that left over stuff as my inner ear continues to heal and progress back to a new normal.

So I guess if I can ride those lines, in wet with that? Maybe that bodes well for the tires… or maybe those technical skills run pretty deep.

That combo was wonderful in just about every condition and unlike the Ardent and Ikon combo… they really hooked up nicely in wet conditions. They felt stable and under control on wet rocks and roots. I found it quite the confidence inspiring combination. The Breakout is one stout tire with a lot of traction in a relatively fast rolling tire.

But in every way, that tire is a wonderful mountain bike tire. With a little revision to add a layer of sidewall protection, that tire will be just about perfect. TCS Sealant allows for the use of a lightweight tire casing while providing superior flat protection.

A recessed channel along the center of TCS 2. Once the Solid Strip is installed, TCS Tape is then applied to provide the airtight seal needed for a reliable tubeless system. Tubeless sealant allows for the use of a lightweight tire casing while providing superior flat protection. TCS Solid Strip is a durable rim strip that prevents tubeless tape from sagging at the spoke holes, which ensures a smooth interface between tire and rim.

This makes it easier to mount a tire by preventing air from escaping through indents in the tubeless tape that are otherwise present on rims without the Solid Strip. The Solid Strip provides the added benefit of protecting the airtight system from puncture in the case of a broken spoke. This results in a more robust tubeless system that is easier to set up. On-Ramp also allows riders to easily pop the tire bead to the center of the rim valley before tire removal.
